# IS YOUR HAIL SUPPLEMENT STUCK?

Quick Answer

A supplement is the shop’s request to add documented damage the first estimate missed, and after a big storm they often sit in a queue. First find out what’s holding it: a reinspection, a question about a line, or no one has opened it. Then send your insurer your own short message with the claim number. Arizona’s rule, A.A.C. R20-6-801(E)(3), gives insurers 10 working days to reply to communications from a claimant that reasonably suggest a response is expected, so a note from you matters even when the shop sent the supplement. R20-6-801(H)(5) also requires the insurer’s estimate to be an amount that can reasonably be expected to repair the car properly.

The Longer Answer

## WHY SUPPLEMENTS STALL

Volume. Hail claims arrive in waves, and every supplement needs a person to review it. The first estimate may have come from an app in a day; the review of what the shop found goes to a desk with a stack on it.

A second look. Some insurers want to see the car again or ask for more photos before approving more money. That can be reasonable, but it needs a date. Ask when, and who’s doing it.

One disputed line. The hold-up is often a single item: a dent count on one panel, the headliner labor, or a refinish line. Ask which line it is. A specific disagreement can be answered with a specific photo.

It went to the wrong place. Files get reassigned after a storm. Confirm the adjuster’s name and which inbox the supplement should reach.

## HOW TO GET IT MOVING

1. Ask the shop for the facts. Date sent, who it went to, the amount, and any reply. At our shop, you can text (602) 935-6008 and ask.

2. Message your insurer yourself. Something like: “Claim number ____. My repair shop sent a supplement on ____. Please confirm you received it and tell me when it will be reviewed.” Send it through the app or by email so it’s dated.

3. Count the days. Ten working days is the reply standard in R20-6-801(E)(3). If that passes, ask for a supervisor.

4. If the answer is no, get it in writing. Ask which lines were refused and why. Reductions for betterment or depreciation must be itemized in dollars under R20-6-801(H)(6). The shop can answer with photos or the repair procedure.

5. Know your next steps. Many auto policies include an appraisal clause for disagreements over the amount; check yours for the terms and any costs. You can also file a complaint with the Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions at [azdfi.gov](https://azdfi.gov/consumers/help-problem/filing-complaint).

## THE CAR, IN THE MEANTIME

A rental that runs by the day makes a slow supplement stressful. Our loaners don’t work that way: you keep one of our 30+ Phoenix loaners for the length of your repair. When your policy includes rental coverage we bill your insurer for it, and when it doesn’t, you still pay nothing. On qualifying claims from the October 20–21, 2026 storms, we cover the first $1,000 of your deductible; above that, case by case, and we do our best. If your shop isn’t moving the file and you want to change, A.R.S. § 20-468 lets you choose any shop, and our page on [car hail repair in Phoenix](https://dgcollision.com/hail-damage-repair-phoenix/) shows how we work. Before you move the car, ask your current shop about any charges for work already done. General information, not legal advice.

Related Questions

## ASKED ALONGSIDE THIS ONE

**Q: What is a supplement on a hail claim?**

A: It’s a request to add damage the first estimate left out, such as extra dents or access labor, sent to the insurer with photos and line-by-line pricing.

**Q: How long should a hail supplement take?**

A: It varies, and storms slow it down. Arizona doesn’t set a supplement-specific deadline, but R20-6-801(E)(3) calls for a reply within 10 working days to your communications that reasonably suggest a response is expected.

**Q: Who pays if a supplement isn’t approved?**

A: Ask before that work goes ahead. Find out which lines were refused and why, and have the shop explain your options in writing so a bill doesn’t surprise you.

**Q: Can the insurer send someone to look at the car again?**

A: Yes, insurers commonly reinspect before approving more. Ask for a date, and ask to have it done at the shop so the dents can be seen under PDR lights.
