# HOW DO YOU FILE A HAIL CLAIM IN ARIZONA?

Quick Answer

Call your insurer or open its app, choose a comprehensive claim, and give the date of loss: October 20, 2026 for the East Valley storm, October 21 for north Phoenix and Glendale. Add photos and tell the insurer which shop you’ve chosen; Arizona law (A.R.S. § 20-468) lets you choose any shop. Arizona’s claim rule, A.A.C. R20-6-801, generally gives insurers 10 working days to acknowledge your claim, 30 days to finish investigating, and 15 working days after proof of loss to accept or deny it. You file the claim; the shop sends the estimate and photos to the adjuster and handles supplements.

Step By Step

## SIX STEPS FROM DENTS TO AN APPROVED CLAIM

1. Document before anything moves. Take photos of each panel in daylight, plus a few low-angle shots that show the dents. Note where the car was parked during the storm. If anything broke, like glass or a lamp, photograph that too.

2. Find your coverage and deductible. Hail falls under comprehensive coverage. Your declarations page shows whether you have it and what the deductible is. Liability-only policies don’t cover your own car.

3. Open the claim. Call the claims number on your insurance card or use the insurer’s app. Choose comprehensive, give the date and location, and describe the damage. Write down the claim number.

4. Name your shop. Insurers often suggest a network shop. You can say no; A.R.S. § 20-468 gives you the right to choose any repair facility, and an insurer that recommends one has to tell you that. Arizona’s claim rule also says insurers can’t require you to travel unreasonably to get the car repaired at a specific shop.

5. The estimate and inspection. The insurer writes or reviews an estimate, from photos or with an adjuster looking at the car. We send ours with a written dent count. When panels come apart and show more damage, we send a supplement with photos.

6. Approval, repair, payment. Under A.A.C. R20-6-801, an insurer generally must acknowledge your claim within 10 working days, finish its investigation within 30 days unless it reasonably can’t, and tell you within 15 working days after proof of loss whether it accepts or denies the claim. If it needs more time, it has to tell you why. If you think an insurer isn’t following the rules, you can file a complaint with the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions at [azdfi.gov](https://azdfi.gov/consumers/help-problem/filing-complaint).

On the deductible. For qualifying claims from the October 20–21, 2026 storms, we cover your deductible up to $2,000, depending on the damage, so many drivers pay $0 out of pocket. The amount is written on the estimate and billed honestly. Don’t sit on the claim: many insurers hold hail claims to a filing window commonly around a year, sometimes less. This is general information, not legal advice.

## ASKED ALONGSIDE THIS ONE

**Q: Should I get an estimate before I file?**

A: It helps. A written dent count tells you whether the repair clearly beats your deductible. If it doesn’t, paying cash keeps the claim off your history.

**Q: What date do I use if I found the dents later?**

A: The date the hail fell: October 20, 2026 for Mesa, Gilbert and Chandler, and October 21 for north Phoenix, Glendale and Peoria. Not the day you noticed.

**Q: How long does an Arizona insurer have to answer?**

A: Under A.A.C. R20-6-801, generally 10 working days to acknowledge the claim, 30 days to complete the investigation unless it reasonably can’t, and 15 working days after proof of loss to accept or deny it.

**Q: Do you file the claim for me?**

A: You open the claim with your insurer. After that, we send the adjuster our photos and estimate, handle the correspondence, and send supplements when we find more damage.
