# PROGRESSIVE CLAIMS IN 2026 — WHAT 119 CARS TAUGHT US

Since January, one hundred nineteen Progressive-insured vehicles have crossed our Lewisville floor — 41 collision, 78 hail. We kept score: approvals in about two business days, every collision file supplemented at least once, and Guided Photo opening estimates that ran roughly 35% short of the final documented repair — unless the first estimate was written here, in which case most hail files closed with no supplement at all. This page is that ledger, opened: the two-day clock and why it runs that fast, the three cars that tell the whole story, the honest fine print on the network guarantee, and how a Progressive claim runs through an independent shop.

The Network Answer

Fully independent — no network agreement, no carrier scorecard

Numbers from our own 2026 claim files — dated, reviewed quarterly

We email and text your local adjuster directly — no queue

TL;DR

Across 119 Progressive claims repaired at our Lewisville shop since January 2026 — 41 collision, 78 hail — approvals ran about two business days, with the adjuster typically on our floor within one to three. Every collision file needed at least one supplement; hail files whose first estimate was written at our shop mostly closed with none. Guided Photo opening numbers ran roughly 35% short of the final documented repair on a typical file — and far shorter on the dramatic ones: a 2022 Audi S3 collision claim opened at $4,500 and finished at $19,500; a 2022 Toyota Sienna opened at $8,000 and finished at $16,500; while a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee estimated here first was approved complete at $13,800, zero supplements. Progressive wrote 21.1% of Texas private-passenger auto premium in TDI’s 2024 market data — the largest share of any carrier — so odds are your next claim is one of these. Texas Insurance Code §1952.301 puts the shop choice with you, Progressive’s own FAQ says they’ll work with the shop you picked, and in our files their claim line pushed the network the least of the majors — one early mention, then done. Their network guarantee is real but lives inside the network; our written lifetime warranty covers the repair either way. We’re independent, and everything starts with your claim number.

- The sample: 119 claims since January 2026 — 41 collision, 78 hail. One shop’s ledger, not a study.

- The clock: ~2 business days to approval; adjuster on our floor within 1–3; supplements clear in ~2.

- The supplement split: collision, 100% — teardown always finds something. Hail estimated here first: usually zero.

- The photo gap: Guided Photo openers ran ~35% short of final on typical files — $4,500 vs $19,500 on the worst.

- Your rights: shop choice is yours — §1952.301, echoed by Progressive’s own FAQ — and it held in all 119 files, with the mildest network pitch we hear from any major carrier.

Report, Not Rating

## WHAT THIS REPORT IS — AND ISN’T

Progressive is the largest private-passenger auto insurer in Texas — 21.1% of premium in TDI’s 2024 market data, ahead of State Farm’s 18.2% — which makes a Progressive claim the single most likely claim for a DFW driver to be holding. Since January we’ve repaired 119 of them: 41 collision, 78 hail. Those files have dates on them — when we submitted, when the adjuster walked our floor, when the approval landed, how many supplements it took, what the opening number said against the finished repair. This report is those dates, added up. Data window: January 1 – August 15, 2026. We re-run the numbers quarterly, and the review date at the top moves when we do.

The disclosures, same as our [State Farm report](https://dgcollision.com/guides/state-farm-claims-shop-report/): 119 claims is one shop’s ledger, not a scientific study, and the sample sizes stay in the copy so you can weigh them yourself. None of this is official Progressive information, and it isn’t a rating — in fact, you’ll find a few genuine compliments in here, because the record earned them. What the record shows, on the whole, is a carrier that moves fast when the documentation is complete — and an opening photo estimate that is a starting point by design.

The Question Everyone Asks

## DO YOU HAVE TO USE A PROGRESSIVE NETWORK SHOP?

No. That’s the whole answer, and it comes from three places at once. Texas Insurance Code §1952.301 bars an insurer from requiring a particular repair facility. Progressive’s own estimates FAQ says it in their words: “If you’ve already selected a shop for your repairs, we’ll work with that shop to get an estimate.” And our 2026 ledger says it in numbers: 119 Progressive-insured vehicles repaired at a fully independent shop, every one approved and paid. Progressive’s network, incidentally, doesn’t even carry a flashy brand name — their materials just call it their network of repair shops: facilities with direct-repair agreements with the carrier, a fine arrangement that isn’t a requirement for anyone.

The honest fine print is the guarantee, so let’s read it fairly. Repairs done at a network shop carry Progressive’s limited lifetime guarantee — good “for as long as you own or lease your vehicle,” which is a real benefit. Its edges are also real: by its own terms it’s voided by “any work on the covered repair performed by anyone outside Progressive’s network,” and it isn’t transferable when you sell the car. Choosing your own shop doesn’t mean choosing no protection — it means choosing whose. Repairs at DG carry our own written lifetime warranty, backed by the shop that did the work, not by where the carrier’s network map happens to end. You’re trading one piece of paper for another; read both and pick the shop you trust.

And credit where due on the steering front: of the major carriers we bill, Progressive’s claim line pushes its network the least in our experience. The network offer typically comes up once, early in the call — and once you say you have a shop, that’s usually the end of it. That’s how Texas wants it: an insurer may not “state or suggest, either orally or in writing” that your repair must happen at a network shop to be covered (Tex. Ins. Code §1952.302). One sentence — “I’m using DG Collision Center in Lewisville” — settled it in all 119 of our files. The full walkthrough of a Progressive claim, steering script included, lives on our [Progressive claims page](https://dgcollision.com/progressive-body-shop-lewisville/).

The Clock, Measured

## THE TIMELINE WE ACTUALLY SEE

What we measured Our 2026 number Context

Approval — submission to green light About 2 business days Median across the 119 files, collision and hail

Adjuster on our floor Within 1–3 days The volume we run means the same local adjusters, week after week

Supplement approval About 2 business days Documented line items, emailed and texted straight to the adjuster

Parts arrival Typically next day Distributor and dealership relationships; national backorders are the rare exception, and we know who to call

Guided Photo estimate vs final cost Roughly 35% short On typical files that needed shop-level repair — the extremes ran far wider

Two business days deserves an explanation, because it’s fast. Part of it is documentation — a submission with teardown photos and a mapped dent count arrives at the adjuster’s desk as a decision, not a question. The other part is repetition: we run enough Progressive volume that the local adjusters know our shop, our estimates, and our lighting, and they’re typically walking our floor within one to three days of the claim landing. Familiarity doesn’t change what gets approved — the file does that — but it removes the waiting-room days most people assume are mandatory. Parts rarely add wait either: most orders are on our dock the next morning, and when something genuinely sits on national backorder, we know who to call to move it up the list rather than letting your car hold a stall.

The Opening Number

## THE SHOP ESTIMATE VS THE PHOTO ESTIMATE

Progressive’s Guided Photo process is honest about what it is: their FAQ describes an estimate for the visible damage, and says plainly that “sometimes additional damage is found during repairs — this is normal. In that case, we’ll work with the repair shop on an updated estimate.” In our 2026 files, that opening number ran roughly 35% short of the final documented repair on a typical car that needed shop-level work. But the more useful pattern in our ledger is what happens when the first estimate is written at the shop instead of from photos. Three cars, same carrier, same year:

The car Where the first estimate happened How the claim ran

2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Written at our shop, under our lights Approved complete at $13,800 — zero supplements

2022 Toyota Sienna Opened from a photo estimate at $8,000 Finished at $16,500 after supplement

2022 Audi S3 — collision Opened at $4,500 Finished at $19,500 after all supplements — teardown found what photos can’t

Same adjusters, same rules — the difference is when the real damage gets counted. A photo round prices the car twice: once wrong, once right, with a supplement cycle in between. A shop-written first estimate prices it once. That’s why 78 hail cars into the season, our advice to Progressive customers is one sentence: file the claim, then bring the car here before anyone writes a number. Every gap above was closed through Progressive’s ordinary supplement process — nobody fought the evidence; the evidence just had to exist. If you’re holding an opening estimate now, learn [how to read it](https://dgcollision.com/guides/how-to-read-a-repair-estimate/) before you treat it as final.

### SKIP THE PHOTO ROUND. GET IT WRITTEN RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.

The written estimate is free. Estimated here first, most of our Progressive hail files closed with no supplement at all — the Grand Cherokee way, not the Sienna way.

Where Claims Grow

## SUPPLEMENTS — THE COLLISION RULE AND THE HAIL EXCEPTION

Our supplement ledger splits cleanly in two. Collision: one hundred percent. Every one of the 41 collision files this year needed at least one supplement, and that isn’t a Progressive quirk — it’s what bumpers do. Take the cover off and there’s always something the photos didn’t show: crushed absorbers, bent brackets, a radar mount out of spec. The Audi S3 above is the rule at its loudest — $4,500 of visible damage, $19,500 of actual car. Hail runs the other way — when it starts here. Files whose first estimate was written under our lights mostly closed with no supplement at all, because a hood mapped dent by dent with proper lighting leaves nothing for a second round to find. The hail supplements we did file this year came from cars estimated elsewhere first, where dents invisible without a PDR light never made the count.

When a supplement is needed, the process is short: teardown photos, line-item documentation, emailed and texted straight to the local adjuster — approvals in about two business days. A supplement isn’t the claim going wrong. It’s the claim meeting the actual car.

OEM, Documented

## PARTS — WHAT GETS WRITTEN VS WHAT GETS APPROVED

The ground rules first, stated precisely: Tex. Ins. Code §1952.301 bars an insurer from dictating the brand, type, vendor, or condition of parts — but it doesn’t automatically fund OEM either. Inside that gap, Progressive behaves the way the policy language says it will: where the policy allows aftermarket, their estimates write aftermarket. Whether OEM gets approved depends more on the policy on the desk than on the argument in the room, so we read yours first and tell you what it actually supports. One genuine credit from our files: Progressive rarely writes used or salvage parts on our estimates — a quiet decision plenty of carriers don’t make, and worth naming.

Where the estimate does come back aftermarket, we work it: OEM position statements where safety or ADAS performance is on the line, and our dealer relationships to price-match factory parts against the aftermarket number so the car gets OEM without a fight over the difference. We get there in most cases; we can’t promise it every time, but we try it every time. The full landscape — what aftermarket really means, where recycled parts are defensible — is in our [OEM vs aftermarket guide](https://dgcollision.com/guides/oem-vs-aftermarket-parts-texas/).

The Other Meter

## RENTALS AND LOANERS — NOBODY WAITS ON A CURB

Nothing to complain about here, and we won’t invent something: Progressive rental authorizations have run very smooth for us this year — set up promptly when the policy carries the coverage, no daily phone calls, no friction worth reporting across 119 files. The only clock that matters is the one every rental arrangement has: coverage ends, and supplement-heavy repairs sometimes outlast it. When that happens, we hand you keys from our own loaner fleet, free — fifty-plus loaners on the lot, so the repair timeline and your transportation never negotiate against each other.

If You’re Holding A Claim Number

## INSURED WITH PROGRESSIVE? HERE’S HOW IT WORKS HERE

File first notice of loss in the Progressive app, online, or at 1-800-776-4737, and bring us one thing: the claim number. From there the mechanics are direct in the most literal sense — we email and text your local adjuster ourselves, submission to supplements, so nothing sits unseen in a queue. We are fully independent — no network agreement, no carrier scorecard — and the 119 approvals in this report were earned file by file, with documentation, by a shop whose only obligation is to the person whose name is on the title. You approve the decisions, pay your deductible once, and Progressive pays the approved balance to us directly. Based on this year’s ledger, expect the adjuster within a few days, an approval in about two, and — if you started here — a real chance your file never needs a supplement at all. The step-by-step claim walkthrough lives on our [Progressive claims page](https://dgcollision.com/progressive-body-shop-lewisville/); the shop-choice law in depth is in our [steering guide](https://dgcollision.com/guides/insurance-recommended-body-shop/); and the same report for the other big carrier is our [State Farm shop-floor report](https://dgcollision.com/guides/state-farm-claims-shop-report/).

Progressive Claim Questions

## FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

**Q: Do I have to use a Progressive network repair shop?**

A: No. Texas Insurance Code §1952.301 bars an insurer from requiring a particular repair facility, and Progressive’s own estimates FAQ says: “If you’ve already selected a shop for your repairs, we’ll work with that shop to get an estimate.” Our shop is fully independent and repaired 119 Progressive-insured vehicles in the first seven and a half months of 2026 under exactly that right — every one approved and paid. In our experience Progressive’s claim line mentions the network once, early; name your shop and that’s usually the end of it.

**Q: What happens to Progressive’s lifetime guarantee if I pick my own shop?**

A: Progressive’s limited lifetime guarantee applies to repairs done at its network shops — good for as long as you own or lease the vehicle, but by its own terms it’s voided by any work on the covered repair performed outside the network, and it doesn’t transfer when you sell. Choosing your own shop means choosing whose protection you carry instead: repairs at DG come with our own written lifetime warranty, backed by the shop that did the work. Read both papers and pick the shop you trust.

**Q: Is the Guided Photo estimate all I’ll get for my repair?**

A: No. Progressive describes it as an estimate of the visible damage, and their FAQ says additional damage found during repairs is normal and gets an updated estimate. In our 2026 files, Guided Photo opening numbers ran roughly 35% short of the final documented repair on typical cars — and far shorter on the extremes: a 2022 Audi S3 opened at $4,500 and finished at $19,500; a 2022 Sienna opened at $8,000 and finished at $16,500. Cars estimated at our shop first — like a 2023 Grand Cherokee approved complete at $13,800 — mostly skipped the supplement cycle entirely.

**Q: How long does Progressive take to approve a repair?**

A: In our 2026 files: about two business days from submission to approval, with the adjuster typically on our floor within one to three days — we run enough Progressive volume that the same local adjusters see our documentation every week. Supplements cleared in about two business days as well, and parts usually arrive the day after we order them.

**Q: Will Progressive pay for OEM parts?**

A: It depends on the policy more than the argument: where the policy allows aftermarket parts, Progressive’s estimates write aftermarket. Texas Ins. Code §1952.301 bars the insurer from dictating parts brand, type, vendor, or condition, but doesn’t automatically fund OEM. One credit from our files: they rarely write used or salvage parts. Where safety or ADAS performance is on the line we document the OEM case, and we price-match factory parts through our dealer relationships so the car usually gets OEM without a fight over the difference.

**Q: Do you deal with the Progressive adjuster, or do I?**

A: We do. File first notice of loss in the app, online, or at 1-800-776-4737, and bring us the claim number. From there we email and text your local adjuster directly — estimate, teardown documentation, supplements, calibration scheduling. You approve the decisions and pay your deductible once; Progressive pays the approved balance to us directly.

**Q: Is this report official Progressive information?**

A: No. These are the logged observations of one independent Lewisville body shop across 119 Progressive claims from January through mid-August 2026. The numbers are our files, not Progressive data, and your claim can run differently — sample sizes are stated so you can weigh them. For Progressive’s official process, see progressive.com. We re-run these numbers quarterly and update the review date above. (General information, not legal advice.)
