## WHERE THE OCTOBER 21 HAIL LANDED IN NORTH PHOENIX

The NWS names its report locations by distance from a reference point — here, “Deer Valley.” That’s hard to picture, so below we’ve placed each north Phoenix report on the city’s street grid using its coordinates. The coordinates are only accurate to about half a mile, so treat each one as “near,” not “at.”

Time & NWS location Size Roughly near

3:30 PM · 6 SSE Deer Valley 1.25″ Peoria Avenue around 15th Avenue — about a mile from our shop

3:30 PM · 4 SSE Deer Valley 1.75″ Between Thunderbird Road and Greenway Road near 7th Avenue

3:35 PM · 4 S Deer Valley 1.50″ Thunderbird Road around 19th Avenue

3:40 PM · 3 ESE Deer Valley 1.00″ Between Bell Road and Union Hills Drive near Central Avenue

3:40 PM · 3 ENE Deer Valley 1.25″ Near Deer Valley Road and 7th Street

3:42 PM · 4 E Deer Valley 1.75″ Between Union Hills Drive and Beardsley Road near 16th Street

3:45 PM · 2 ESE Deer Valley 0.75″ Between Bell Road and Union Hills Drive near 7th Avenue

3:45 PM · 5 ENE Deer Valley 1.50″ Near Deer Valley Road and 24th Street

Read together, the reports describe one storm moving north and east across the I-17 corridor in about fifteen minutes, with golf-ball hail at its core. A car parked anywhere between those points — not just at them — most likely took the same stones. The full report log for both days, including Glendale, Peoria and the East Valley, is on our [October 20–21 Phoenix storm page](https://dgcollision.com/hail-storms/october-20-21-2026-phoenix-hail/).

Shoot the hood, the roof and one close-up in low light and text them to (602) 935-6008. We’ll reply with what we see and a rough range. We’re a mile from the Sunnyslope reports, so if it’s worth fixing, we can usually see the car the same week.

## SUNNYSLOPE TO DEER VALLEY: WHAT TO CHECK WHERE

Sunnyslope and North Mountain. This is our own neighborhood — the Hatcher Road shop sits here, at the south end of the swath. The nearest report, 1.25-inch hail near Peoria Avenue and 15th Avenue, is about a mile away. Cars on the Sunnyslope blocks and along Dunlap and Peoria Avenues should be checked even if nothing looked wrong at first glance; half-dollar hail leaves dents that only show in low-angle light.

Moon Valley and the Thunderbird corridor. Two of the heaviest reports — 1.75 inches between Thunderbird and Greenway near 7th Avenue, and 1.50 inches on Thunderbird around 19th Avenue — fell within a few minutes of each other on the west side of Moon Valley. Expect roofs and hoods with deep, close-spaced dents here, and look closely at sunroofs, mirror caps and taillight lenses.

Deer Valley and the Bell–Union Hills area. The storm reached Bell Road and Union Hills by 3:40 PM and kept producing hail up to Deer Valley Road. The second golf-ball report, near 16th Street between Union Hills and Beardsley, landed at 3:42 PM. Office parks and retail lots along this stretch held a lot of cars mid-afternoon.

North of Deer Valley Road. The last north Phoenix report came in near Deer Valley Road and 24th Street at 3:45 PM, ping-pong size. Beyond that the record goes quiet until a nickel-size report east of Carefree at 4:05 PM.

Why It Matters

## A 3:30 PM STORM CATCHES CARS AWAY FROM HOME

Night storms hit cars in driveways and garages. This one hit at 3:30 on a Wednesday afternoon, when a large share of north Phoenix’s cars were parked at work, at school pickup or in a store lot — often uncovered. Two things follow. First, your car may have been hit somewhere other than home, so check it even if your street saw nothing. Second, the date of loss is still October 21, wherever the car was parked; the claim is based on the storm date, not your address.

Daytime storms also mean a lot of people saw the hail happen and assume their car is fine because it looked fine that evening. Dents from 1.25 to 1.75-inch hail often don’t show in flat midday light. The next morning, look along the hood and roof from a low angle, or text us a few photos and we’ll tell you what we see.

North Phoenix Questions

## NORTH PHOENIX HAIL FAQ

**Q: Did it hail in Sunnyslope or Moon Valley on October 21, 2026?**

A: Yes. NWS reports put 1.25-inch hail near Peoria Avenue and 15th Avenue, on the Sunnyslope side, and 1.50 to 1.75-inch hail along Thunderbird Road on the west side of Moon Valley, all between 3:30 and 3:35 PM on October 21, 2026.

**Q: How big was the hail in Deer Valley?**

A: Up to golf-ball size. The two largest north Phoenix reports were 1.75 inches, at 3:30 PM between Thunderbird and Greenway near 7th Avenue and at 3:42 PM between Union Hills and Beardsley near 16th Street. Other Deer Valley-area reports ranged from 0.75 to 1.50 inches.

**Q: My car was at work when it hailed. Which date do I use?**

A: October 21, 2026. The date of loss is the storm date, wherever the car was parked. If it was at work in north Phoenix that afternoon, it was most likely inside the swath.

**Q: How close is your shop to the hail?**

A: Very. Our shop at 649 W Hatcher Rd is about a mile from the 6 SSE Deer Valley report and within a few miles of the golf-ball reports. Most north Phoenix customers can drive over in minutes, and pickup is free.

**Q: Can golf-ball hail damage be fixed without repainting?**

A: Often. Paintless dent repair works as long as the paint isn’t cracked. At 1.75 inches some strikes do crack paint, usually on the crown of the hood or roof, and those panels need conventional repair. The estimate marks which method each panel needs.

**Q: How much is my deductible covered?**

A: For qualifying claims from this storm, up to $2,000, depending on the damage. The amount is set from the actual repair and written on your estimate before work starts.

**Q: Can I text you photos instead of calling?**

A: Yes. Text photos to (602) 935-6008, any hour. Low-angle shots of the hood and roof work best, and we’ll reply with what we see and a rough range.

**Q: ¿Puedo hablar en español?**

A: Sí. Se habla español en nuestro taller de Hatcher Road y en la línea de tormenta, (602) 935-6008, las 24 horas. Le ayudamos con el presupuesto y el reclamo en español.
