WILL I PAY MORE WITH FARMERS AT AN OUT-OF-NETWORK SHOP?
As a rule, no — the Circle of Dependability is a guarantee, not a requirement. Your Farmers policy pays to repair your car to its pre-loss condition at the shop you choose. Texas law puts that choice with you (Tex. Ins. Code §1952.301), and §1952.302 bars an insurer from requiring a particular shop — Farmers’ own materials point you to any shop you pick. The Circle of Dependability is Farmers’ network of shops that guarantee workmanship for as long as you own the vehicle, started with a Photo Estimate — a convenience, and an optional one. Going outside it doesn’t raise your out-of-pocket: your deductible is the same, once. The guarantee that actually protects your car is the shop’s — and ours is a written lifetime warranty that travels.
The Longer Answer
YOUR AGENT IS AN ALLY — AND THE NETWORK IS STILL OPTIONAL
Farmers is an agent company, and a good Farmers agent is genuinely on your side — which is why a nudge toward the Circle of Dependability often comes from someone you trust, not a faceless claim line. Worth knowing the line anyway. The Circle of Dependability is Farmers’ network of shops that carry a workmanship guarantee for as long as you own the vehicle, and Farmers’ own materials describe it as a guarantee you get at those shops — not a requirement, and they point you to any shop you pick. Under §1952.301 the choice is yours, and §1952.302 says an insurer may recommend a shop but can’t cross into “state or suggest” that you have to use one. Going to an independent doesn’t change what your policy owes: the reasonable cost to return your car to its pre-loss condition, minus your deductible, once.
So when “you’ll pay more out of network” comes up with Farmers, it’s usually really the guarantee question — and that’s about whose protection, not whether you have it. The Circle of Dependability guarantee covers workmanship at network shops for as long as you own; at your own shop, the warranty that protects the repair is the shop’s. Ours is a written lifetime warranty on workmanship and paint on the same “as long as you own” terms — so choosing your own shop isn’t choosing less protection, it’s choosing whose. On price itself: the Photo Estimate is an opening number, supplements are documented and billed to the claim, and any genuine rate gap is ours to resolve with the carrier, never transferred to you.
If hands-off convenience is genuinely your top priority, the Circle of Dependability is a reasonable choice — and if a specific team, a specific standard, or the shop that’s had your car before matters more, that’s your call to make, at no extra cost. The out-of-network warning from any carrier is a forecast, not a receipt, and the same answer holds across carriers. In the Farmers claims we handle, the out-of-network repair gets approved, supplemented where the teardown requires it, and the choice holds; the claim-process detail — including how the agent and the claims office split the work — lives on our Farmers body shop page. If a recommendation ever turns into pressure, §1952.304 bars the gag-clause version and the Texas Department of Insurance takes complaints. Bring us the claim number and a photo, and the paperwork becomes ours.
