HAIL ADJUSTER NOT RESPONDING IN ARIZONA?

Quick Answer

Put your question in writing with your claim number, and give it 10 working days. Arizona’s claim rule, A.A.C. R20-6-801(E)(3), says an insurer must make an appropriate reply within 10 working days to communications from a claimant that reasonably suggest a response is expected. If that passes, ask for a supervisor, loop in your agent, and consider a complaint to the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions, which the insurer must answer within 15 working days. A storm backlog explains a slow week, but the deadlines still apply. You don’t have to wait to line up the repair: our Phoenix shop can document the damage now, and qualifying claims are $0 out of pocket.

The Longer Answer

THE CLOCKS YOUR INSURER IS ON

Step
Deadline
Where it comes from
Acknowledge your claim
10 working days
R20-6-801(E)(1), unless the claim is paid first. Telling the insurer’s agent counts as telling the insurer.
Reply to your messages
10 working days
R20-6-801(E)(3), for communications that reasonably suggest a response is expected.
Finish investigating
30 days
R20-6-801(F), counted from notice of the claim, unless it can’t reasonably be done by then.
Accept or deny
15 working days
R20-6-801(G)(1), after properly executed proofs of loss. If it needs longer, it must tell you why.
Update you if it’s still open
Every 45 days
R20-6-801(G)(1)(b), a letter giving the reasons more time is needed.
Pay after acceptable proof of loss
30 days, or interest
A.R.S. § 20-462: a first-party claim not paid in that time owes interest at the legal rate.

These dates apply to insurers generally. Working days and calendar days are different counts, so note which one applies.

WHAT TO DO, IN ORDER

1. Send one clear message. Use your insurer’s app or email so it’s dated. Include your claim number, the date of loss (October 20, 2026 for the East Valley, October 21 for north Phoenix and Glendale), and one specific question. “When will my estimate be reviewed?” gets further than “any update?”

2. Try the other doors. Call the main claims line and ask whether your file was reassigned; after a big storm that happens often. If you bought through an agent, ask them to check on it too.

3. Ask for a supervisor. If 10 working days pass with no reply, ask for the adjuster’s supervisor, and keep a note of each date and name.

4. File a complaint if it’s still quiet. The Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions takes consumer complaints at azdfi.gov. Under R20-6-801(E)(2), an insurer must give the Department an adequate response to its inquiry within 15 working days.

WHILE YOU WAIT

The claim is yours to open and follow up on, and we can take a lot off your plate. We count the dents under PDR lights, send your adjuster the estimate and photos, and handle the correspondence on the repair side. Arizona law, A.R.S. § 20-468, lets you choose any shop. See how hail repair in Phoenix works with us: on qualifying claims from these storms, we cover the first $1,000 of your deductible (above that, case by case, and we do our best), and you drive a free loaner while the car is in. ASKED ALONGSIDE THIS ONE

How long can an insurance adjuster take to respond in Arizona?+
Under A.A.C. R20-6-801(E)(3), an appropriate reply is due within 10 working days on communications from a claimant that reasonably suggest a response is expected.
Can I get my car repaired before the adjuster responds?+
Talk to your insurer before work starts, because it may want to inspect the damage first. A shop can still count the dents, photograph them and send the estimate while you wait.
Does filing a complaint hurt my claim?+
A complaint is a normal consumer step. The Department asks the insurer to respond, and the insurer must do so within 15 working days under R20-6-801(E)(2).
Could a policy deadline pass while I’m waiting?+
Keep an eye on it. If an insurer is negotiating directly with you, R20-6-801(G)(4) requires written notice 30 days before a time limit that may affect your rights can expire.
