HAIL DAMAGE ON A FINANCED OR LEASED CAR?
You file the claim the same way, but someone else has a say. On a financed car, the insurer often puts your lender on the check, so both of you must sign, and your loan agreement may require repair. On a leased car, the leasing company owns it, and unrepaired hail can be charged at turn-in as excess wear, depending on your lease. Either way, you can still choose your shop under A.R.S. § 20-468. Keep the final invoice and photos as proof of a proper repair. Qualifying claims at our Phoenix shop are $0 out of pocket: your insurer pays the repair, and we cover the first $1,000 of your deductible.
The Longer Answer
FINANCED: WHAT CHANGES
The two-name check. Your lender is listed on the policy, so the insurer commonly names it on the payment. Call the lender early and ask how it signs repair checks. Many have a set process and want to see the estimate or know the shop.
Keeping the money isn’t really your call. Owners who’ve paid off a car have more room. With a loan, the lender has an interest in the car and can require the repair. Read more on what to do with the check.
If the car were totaled. Most hail repairs aren’t close, but if it happened, the payment goes to the lender first. GAP coverage, if you have it, may help with any balance left. Details are on will insurance total my car.
LEASED: WHAT CHANGES
Read the wear-and-use section. Lease agreements set what you can be charged for at the end. Hail dents, and repairs that look poor, can both show up on a turn-in inspection. Check the terms and how far out your inspection is.
Your insurance still pays. Hail is a comprehensive claim on a leased car too, and leases usually require you to carry that coverage. Your deductible works the same way.
Keep a clean paper trail. Save the invoice, the photos and the written warranty. If an inspector questions a panel, you can show what was done. We use paintless dent repair wherever the paint is intact, so the factory finish stays in place.
Your share. On qualifying claims from the October 20–21, 2026 storms, we cover the first $1,000 of your deductible; above that, case by case, and we do our best.
