USAA CLAIM? YOU'VE EARNED THE CHOICE.

Yes — we repair USAA members' vehicles all the time. Direct billing to USAA, supplements documented at teardown, in-house ADAS calibration, free loaner cars, written lifetime warranty. USAA tells members the shop choice is theirs — and here's a detail worth knowing: the I-CAR Gold Class standard its STARS network requires is one we already hold, independently, on our own dime.

I-CAR Gold Class held independently — the STARS bar, cleared on our own

Rear-end collision repair completed at DG Collision Center in Lewisville TX for an insurance claim billed direct to the carrier
TL;DR

You do not have to use a USAA STARS network shop in Texas. USAA's own guidance says members may select the repair shop of their choice, and Texas Insurance Code §1952.301 makes it law. DG Collision Center — an independent Lewisville shop — holds the same I-CAR Gold Class certification USAA requires of its STARS network, bills USAA directly, documents supplements at teardown, provides a free loaner for the whole repair, and backs the work with a written lifetime warranty. Your out-of-pocket: your deductible, once.

  • STARS is an assist, not a mandate — USAA's own guidance leaves the shop choice with the member.
  • The STARS screening bar — I-CAR Gold Class, OEM methods, calibration capability — is one we clear independently, not as a network obligation.
  • Photo estimates are opening numbers — teardown documents the rest, billed to USAA through supplements.
  • Free loaner car from our 50+ fleet for the full repair, rental coverage or not.
  • You pay the deductible once — USAA pays the approved balance directly to us.

How USAA Claims Work At An Independent Shop

USAA members are used to a carrier that actually answers the phone — and the claims side mostly lives up to it: file in the app or online, get an adjuster, move fast. Here's how that meets our shop: hand us the claim number and we run the rest — direct billing to USAA, complete teardown documentation, supplements submitted with photos and OEM procedures, adjuster communication handled. You pay your deductible; USAA pays the approved balance to us.

The DFW metroplex has one of the largest military and veteran communities in the country, which means we've repaired a lot of USAA members' vehicles over 45+ years — daily drivers, deployment-parked cars that met a hailstorm, and everything between. The service standard that community expects is straightforward: do it right, document everything, communicate without being chased. That's the shop.

What The STARS Network Is — And The Standard Behind It

What it is: STARS is USAA's direct-repair network — a group of shops that meet USAA's screening standards, with guaranteed repairs at approved locations nationwide. The screening is real: STARS shops must hold I-CAR Gold Class certification, follow OEM-approved repair methods, and maintain diagnostics and calibration capability.

Here's the part we respect: that's a good checklist. It's also our checklist — DG Collision Center holds I-CAR Gold Class certification, repairs to OEM procedures, and runs diagnostics and ADAS calibration in-house, and we did all of that independently, because it's how collision repair should be done, not because a carrier required it. The standard USAA demands of its network is the standard you get here anyway — with our loyalty pointed at you.

And the choice stays yours: USAA's own guidance says members may select the repair shop of their choice, with STARS offered as an assist for members who don't have one. In Texas, Insurance Code §1952.301 backs that with law. If an adjuster steers anyway, our shop-choice guide has the scripts.

Your USAA Claim, Step By Step

Claim Stage
What USAA Does
What We Do
1. File the claim
USAA app or usaa.com — claim number and adjuster assigned
Nothing yet — or call us first to see if the damage clears your deductible
2. First estimate
Often written from photos — visible damage only
Treat it as an opening number; schedule drop-off and your free loaner
3. Teardown
Waits on documentation
Full teardown and blueprint — every hidden part photographed and itemized against OEM procedures
4. Supplement
Adjuster reviews — typically 2–5 business days per cycle
One comprehensive, photographed supplement; we handle every follow-up with USAA
5. Repair & delivery
Pays the approved total minus your deductible, direct to the shop
Repair, refinish, post-repair scan, in-house ADAS calibration, detail, delivery — with our written lifetime warranty

The stage that decides your experience is #3 — the one photo estimates skip entirely. Full teardown at drop-off is why our supplements clear in one cycle instead of three, and why the completion date we quote actually holds. The mechanics live on our collision repair page and in the timeline guide.

Common Questions

USAA CLAIMS FAQ

No. USAA's own guidance says members may select the repair shop of their choice — STARS is offered as an assist, not a mandate — and Texas Insurance Code §1952.301 makes the choice a legal right. One sentence settles it: "I'm using DG Collision Center in Lewisville."
Yes — we repair USAA members' vehicles regularly: direct billing to USAA, teardown-documented supplements, and all adjuster communication handled. We're independent of every carrier network, which means our documentation and our warranty both work for you.
The published STARS screening asks for I-CAR Gold Class certification, OEM repair methods, and diagnostics and calibration capability. DG holds I-CAR Gold Class, repairs to OEM procedures, and calibrates ADAS in-house — independently, not as a network obligation. Same bar, cleared on our own.
Yes — by us, in writing, for life. USAA's guarantee applies at its approved locations; at DG your repair carries our written lifetime warranty on workmanship and paint for as long as you own the vehicle, from a shop that's been in the same city since 1978.
No. Photo estimates price visible damage only; hidden damage gets documented at teardown and paid through supplements on the same claim. We submit them to USAA with lift photos and OEM procedures — the format that gets approved in one cycle instead of three.
Texas Insurance Code §1952.301 bars insurers from limiting coverage by specifying the brand, type, kind, age, vendor, supplier, or condition of parts. We work the parts conversation with your adjuster and push for OEM on structural and safety-related components.
Yes — once. It's your policy's share; USAA pays the approved balance directly to us. On qualifying claims, deductible assistance is legal on Texas auto repairs with honest billing — our deductible guide covers the mechanism.
Yes — 50+ loaners in our own fleet, free for the full duration, whether or not your policy carries rental coverage. Three days or six weeks, the loaner costs you nothing.
