KEMPER CLAIM? YOU’RE NOT A SIDE CUSTOMER — ANYWHERE.
Yes — we repair Kemper-insured vehicles all the time. Direct billing, supplements documented at teardown, ADAS calibration through our specialist partners, free loaner cars, written lifetime warranty. Here’s what most Kemper customers were never told: at nearly every other insurance family, non-standard auto is the side door — at Kemper, it’s the whole house. In 2023 the company shed its preferred home-and-auto business entirely to focus on specialty auto. Your lane is their main lane — and there’s only one standard of work in ours.
Kemper is the rare carrier that picked the specialty lane on purpose. In August 2023 it exited its preferred home-and-auto business entirely — roughly half a billion dollars of premium, non-renewed by design — to put its capital behind specialty auto, the lane most insurance families treat as a side brand. That matters to you twice: your policy isn’t an afterthought at your own carrier, and it isn’t one here — the claim runs like every claim we bill: file it, hand us the claim number, and we take it from there — teardown photographed, one comprehensive supplement, genuine parts argued in writing under Insurance Code §1952.301, your out-of-pocket typically your deductible, once. Paper clarity: Kemper Auto policies in Texas commonly ride on Unitrin County Mutual Insurance Company, Charter Indemnity Company, or Infinity-name paper — Infinity County Mutual is headquartered in Dallas, so some of this “national” carrier’s paper is written up the road. The name itself is older than almost every carrier we bill — James S. Kemper’s Lumbermens Mutual, chartered in Illinois in 1912; today’s Kemper Corporation took the name in 2011 and bought specialty leader Infinity in 2018, a company known for serving Spanish-speaking drivers well — se habla español here too, from the estimate to the adjuster calls (nuestro sitio en español). If your policy is liability-only, it covers their bumper, not yours — our liability-only guide maps every scenario. Free loaner from our 50+ fleet, no day limit, written lifetime warranty, Lewisville since 1978.
- Specialty on purpose — Kemper shed its preferred business in 2023 to make specialty auto the core. Your lane is the main lane, at your carrier and at this shop.
- The Texas paper — Unitrin County Mutual, Charter Indemnity, or Infinity-name entities; Infinity County Mutual is Dallas-based. Same family, same claim, billed identically.
- A 1912 name — James S. Kemper’s Lumbermens Mutual, an auto-insurance pioneer; the modern company took the name in 2011 and doubled down on specialty with Infinity in 2018.
- Se habla español — Infinity built its reputation on Spanish-language service; so did our claims desk. El proceso completo, en su idioma.
- §1952.301 doesn’t read rate tiers — shop choice and parts protections are identical on every Texas auto policy, this one included.
- One number out of pocket, typically — your deductible, once; Kemper pays the approved balance direct to us.
How Kemper Claims Work At An Independent Shop
The mechanics are the ones we run every day: file the claim with Kemper, hand us the claim number, and we take it from there. Direct billing, complete teardown documentation, one comprehensive supplement with photos and factory procedures attached, every adjuster conversation handled for you. You typically pay your deductible; Kemper pays the approved balance straight to us. Whether your card says Kemper Auto, Unitrin County Mutual, Charter Indemnity, or an Infinity name, it’s the same family and the same claim — and it gets the same treatment here.
What’s worth knowing about this carrier is its posture. Most insurance groups keep a non-standard brand the way a restaurant keeps a side menu — real, but not what the kitchen is built around. Kemper rebuilt the kitchen. In August 2023 it walked away from roughly half a billion dollars of preferred home-and-auto premium to concentrate on specialty auto — the coverage for drivers rebuilding a record, carrying an SR-22, driving on a budget, or newly arrived and building a history. You can read that as a business decision; we read it as a description of who’s standing in our lobby. A specialist carrier means you’re nobody’s afterthought — and it also means the claims desk on the other side of the table prices this lane every day and knows its minimums cold. That second part is why documentation discipline decides Kemper claims, and it’s where this shop earns its keep.

The Specialist Carrier, Explained
The name is a century old; the strategy is brand new. The Kemper name traces to 1912, when a 25-year-old insurance salesman named James S. Kemper convinced Chicago’s lumber industry to charter its own insurer — Lumbermens Mutual Casualty Company — and went on to become one of the pioneers of American automobile insurance. The modern company is younger than it looks: the holding company once called Unitrin took the Kemper name in 2011, and in 2018 it bought Infinity — a roughly $1.4 billion acquisition of one of the country’s leading specialty-auto insurers. Then came the defining move: in August 2023, Kemper exited preferred home and auto entirely, non-renewing about $500 million of premium so the company could concentrate on the lane it had chosen. Nobody backs into a decision like that. Specialty auto isn’t Kemper’s side business — it is the business.
The Texas paper: Kemper Auto policies here commonly ride on Unitrin County Mutual Insurance Company, Charter Indemnity Company, or Infinity-name entities — and Infinity County Mutual Insurance Company is headquartered in Dallas, which means some of this national carrier’s Texas paper is written a half hour from our shop. Whichever name your dec page shows, it’s the same family and the same claims machinery, and we bill it identically. One more inheritance worth naming: Infinity built its reputation serving Spanish-speaking drivers — by its own account, no carrier offered more resources in Spanish — and that standard shouldn’t drop at the body shop door. Se habla español aquí también: the estimate, the paperwork, and the adjuster calls can all run in Spanish, and nuestro sitio en español covers the whole process.
The rights that don’t shrink: §1952.301 applies to every auto policy written in Texas — shop choice is yours, and no insurer can limit coverage by the brand, type, kind, age, vendor, supplier, or condition of parts. The statute doesn’t ask what your rate is or which county mutual carries your paper. If an adjuster leans on your choice, our shop-choice guide has the exact scripts.
Your Kemper Claim, Step By Step
The stage that decides a Kemper claim is #3 — the teardown — and on this carrier the reason is specific: a claims desk that prices nothing but this lane, every day, knows its opening numbers cold. You don’t argue a specialist off a minimum estimate with opinions — you move it with evidence: every hidden finding photographed, itemized, and matched to a factory procedure, in one comprehensive supplement instead of a drip. Documentation is the only language that moves a specialist’s number, and it’s the language we write fluently. The mechanics live in our supplements guide and on the collision repair page.
