The evening supercell that crossed the metro on June 2 saved its biggest logged stone for The Colony. The NWS record reads like a two-act play, both acts from Emergency Management: 6:05 p.m., nickel-size hail at The Colony City Hall; eighteen minutes later, 6:23 p.m., “egg size hail reported near Lebanon Rd” — two inches, the kind that doesn’t leave subtle evidence. Between those two points sits most of the city: Olde Towne, the FM 423 retail spine, the east-side neighborhoods running toward the Frisco line. Two months on, the calls we get from The Colony aren’t “my car got destroyed last night” — they’re “I just noticed dents on my roof, is it too late?” It is not. Late discovery is the normal shape of a hail claim: two-inch stones near Lebanon Road, nickels at City Hall, and a thousand driveways in between mean plenty of cars took real damage that didn’t show until the right light hit it. These are point reports: they understate as often as they overstate, and a stone measured on one street says nothing certain about the next one over.

Notice what the calendar is doing: February 2022, April 2019, June two years running, late September 2024 at three in the morning. The Colony’s hail doesn’t respect “hail season,” and it definitely doesn’t respect business hours. That’s worth one practical habit — after any storm you hear on the roof, walk the car in low-angle light before the memory fades — and one planning fact: with 17 one-inch-plus days in eleven years, an outdoor-parked vehicle in 75056 will statistically meet hail again. The Colony has a particular exposure most suburbs don’t: tens of thousands of cars parked outdoors daily around Grandscape, and a retail geography storm-chaser crews love — big lots, big traffic, easy tent placement. Within days of June 2 the offers were everywhere: free inspections, “we work with all insurance,” same-week turnaround. Here’s the sorting question that costs nothing: where does the warranty live? A repair guarantee from an operation that follows storms is a promise with no return address. And the bright line: any pitch that includes “we’ll eat your deductible” is describing insurance fraud — Texas Penal Code §35.02 — executed in your name, since inflating the claim is the only place that money comes from.
