The Storm That Named This Page

JUNE 2, 2026 — EGG-SIZE ON LEBANON ROAD

The evening supercell that crossed the metro on June 2 saved its biggest logged stone for The Colony. The NWS record reads like a two-act play, both acts from Emergency Management: 6:05 p.m., nickel-size hail at The Colony City Hall; eighteen minutes later, 6:23 p.m., “egg size hail reported near Lebanon Rd” — two inches, the kind that doesn’t leave subtle evidence. Between those two points sits most of the city: Olde Towne, the FM 423 retail spine, the east-side neighborhoods running toward the Frisco line. The full metro-wide report table, timings, and what-size-does-what translation live on our June 2 storm page — built to be shown to an adjuster.

Two months on, the calls we get from The Colony aren’t “my car got destroyed last night” — they’re “I just noticed dents on my roof, is it too late?” It is not. Late discovery is the normal shape of a hail claim: two-inch stones near Lebanon Road, nickels at City Hall, and a thousand driveways in between mean plenty of cars took real damage that didn’t show until the right light hit it. Texas comprehensive claims expect prompt notice once you know, not psychic knowledge in June. Photograph what you see, note where the car was parked that evening, and bring us both — we’ll map the dents under the lights and tell you honestly whether it’s a claim or a couple of cash dents.

The Public Record

THE COLONY’S HAIL RECORD — 17 DAYS OF 1″+ SINCE 2015

Every row below comes from National Weather Service local storm reports logged at The Colony or within five miles — the public record your adjuster can verify in thirty seconds. These are point reports: they understate as often as they overstate, and a stone measured on one street says nothing certain about the next one over.

2015–2018up to 2.75″Six more 1″+ days, including 2.75″ on June 6, 2018 and golf balls in March 2017

Notice what the calendar is doing: February 2022, April 2019, June two years running, late September 2024 at three in the morning. The Colony’s hail doesn’t respect “hail season,” and it definitely doesn’t respect business hours. That’s worth one practical habit — after any storm you hear on the roof, walk the car in low-angle light before the memory fades — and one planning fact: with 17 one-inch-plus days in eleven years, an outdoor-parked vehicle in 75056 will statistically meet hail again. When it does, the shop 15 minutes down SH 121 with a fixed address beats whatever blooms in a parking lot that week.

WHAT HAIL REPAIR COSTS FOR THE COLONY

One table, site-wide, storm or no storm. The long version is the DFW hail cost guide; the fast version is the repair cost estimator.

Damage levelPublished rangeNotes
Single dents (cash PDR)$50–$150 per dentPlus R&I trim labor when panels or trim must come off for access
Light — 1–2 panels$750–$1,500The City-Hall-nickel outcome — scattered shallow dents
Deep dents on 1–2 panels$1,500–$4,000What egg-size stones do to a hood or roof skin
Several panels, clear coat intact$2,000–$5,000Common after a fast-moving cell like June 2
Several panels, deep or cracked paint$5,000–$10,000+PDR plus conventional refinish where paint broke
Typical full-vehicle claim$2,500–$8,000Where most carrier-paid hail claims land
Full vehicle, dense but clear$5,000–$9,000Roof, hood, deck, both sides peppered
Full vehicle, deep / glass / cracked paint$7,500–$15,000+The June 2023 three-inch class; total-loss math can enter

Severe-damage note: when stones reach the 2023 sizes, “is it totaled?” becomes a real question with a real formula — and hail has a Texas quirk most drivers don’t know: a hail total doesn’t brand the title the way collision damage can. The complete math and that nuance live in our will-hail-total-my-car guide. PDR versus conventional repair — when each is right and why PDR preserves factory paint — is covered in PDR vs body shop.

The Insurance Side

THE COLONY HAIL CLAIM, START TO FINISH

Hail rides under comprehensive coverage — no fault, no accident on your record. Two pieces of Texas law do the heavy lifting for you. Ins. Code §1952.301: the repair shop and the parts are your choice; the carrier’s network suggestion is a suggestion, and one sentence — “I’m using DG Collision Center in Lewisville” — ends the conversation. 28 TAC §5.7016: your policy can’t be nonrenewed solely over weather claims — the fear that filing for June 2 gets you dropped is answered by regulation, not by us. What no rule does is freeze premiums, and our rates guide tells that part straight instead of promising what nobody can.

Process-wise, you hand us a claim number and we run the rest: every panel photographed and counted under the lights, the documented estimate submitted directly, supplements filed when the first inspection under-counted — and it will have: on our 2026 State Farm files, 100% of hail claims needed at least one supplement, with missed dents the classic trigger, and our documented submissions still cleared in five to seven business days. You pay your deductible once; the loaner is free from day one; and if the vehicle carries liability-only coverage, we’ll say so plainly and price the cash options from the table above — the honest ledger for that call is our liability-only guide.

After Every Logged Storm

THE GRANDSCAPE PARKING LOT RULE — TENTS FOLLOW HAIL

The Colony has a particular exposure most suburbs don’t: tens of thousands of cars parked outdoors daily around Grandscape, and a retail geography storm-chaser crews love — big lots, big traffic, easy tent placement. Within days of June 2 the offers were everywhere: free inspections, “we work with all insurance,” same-week turnaround. Here’s the sorting question that costs nothing: where does the warranty live? A repair guarantee from an operation that follows storms is a promise with no return address. Ours has had the same one — 693 Metro Park Cir, Lewisville — since 1978, fifteen minutes from your driveway, which means the warranty on your roof skin will still have a front door in five years.

And the bright line: any pitch that includes “we’ll eat your deductible” is describing insurance fraud — Texas Penal Code §35.02 — executed in your name, since inflating the claim is the only place that money comes from. Walk away, and vet whoever you do use with the ten questions in our choose-a-shop guide. If it’s us, the estimate is free and written, and the answer to all ten is on the letterhead.

The Colony Hail Questions

THE COLONY HAIL REPAIR FAQ

Was there hail in The Colony on June 2, 2026?+
Yes, and it’s in the official record twice: the National Weather Service logged nickel-size hail at The Colony City Hall at 6:05 p.m. and egg-size (2-inch) hail near Lebanon Road at 6:23 p.m., both reported by Emergency Management. That egg-size report was the biggest logged stone of the storm metro-wide. Our June 2 storm page carries the full report table — it exists precisely so you can hand an adjuster a verified date.
I'm only finding dents now, months after the storm. Too late?+
No. Late discovery is the normal shape of hail claims — dents hide until low-angle light finds them. Texas comprehensive coverage expects prompt notice once you know about the damage, not clairvoyance on storm night. Note where the car was parked on the logged date, photograph what you see, and we’ll build the dent map that connects the two. Carriers process months-old hail claims routinely.
How often does The Colony really get hail?+
Seventeen days with 1-inch-or-larger hail logged at or within five miles of The Colony since 2015 — about one and a half damaging days a year. The résumé includes 3-inch stones on June 11, 2023, near-baseball hail in April 2019, golf balls in February 2022, and 2-inch hail at 3 a.m. in September 2024. Not spring-only, not daytime-only, and June 2 has now hit two years in a row.
What will my hail repair cost?+
Published ranges, identical everywhere on this site: light 1–2 panel damage $750–$1,500; deep dents on 1–2 panels $1,500–$4,000; several panels with paint intact $2,000–$5,000; a typical full-vehicle carrier claim $2,500–$8,000; severe damage $7,500–$15,000+. Cash PDR on single dents is $50–$150 per dent plus R&I trim labor when panels or trim come off for access. On a claim you pay your deductible, once — $0 out-of-pocket on qualifying carrier claims.
Does a hail claim count against me like an accident?+
No — hail is a comprehensive claim, not an at-fault collision. Texas regulation 28 TAC §5.7016 specifically bars carriers from nonrenewing your personal auto policy solely for weather claims. Premium changes at renewal aren’t capped by statute — our rates guide covers that honestly — but the “filing will get me dropped” fear has a regulation squarely against it.
Do I have to use my insurer's network shop?+
No. Texas Insurance Code §1952.301 makes both the shop and the parts your choice; the network pitch is legally a suggestion. Say the sentence — “I’m taking it to DG Collision Center in Lewisville” — and hand us the claim number. We bill the carrier direct, document every dent under the lights, and file the supplements the first inspection almost always makes necessary.
Can you pick my car up in The Colony?+
Yes — anywhere in 75056, Grandscape to The Tribute. Hail cars are ideal pickup candidates: drivable, cosmetic, no urgency to sit in our lobby. You keep a free loaner from our 50+ fleet for the entire repair, and light PDR jobs run days while dense supplement-cycle repairs run longer — we quote honestly after the dent map, not before. (General information, not legal advice.)
