NINETEEN MINUTES OVER WEST MCKINNEY

Most hail records read like weather. McKinney’s biggest day reads like a drive down the west side. At 6:35 PM on March 24, 2019, a social-media report logged two-inch hail a mile southeast of Lake Forest Drive and Eldorado Parkway. Five minutes later the log has three inches near Stacy Road and Alma Road, and 2.5 inches at White Stallion Trail and Alma. At 6:43 PM came the entry that still anchors this page: 4.5-inch hail near Alma Road and Collin McKinney Parkway — softball class, in the middle of the master-planned southwest. By 6:57 PM three-inch stones were falling in Craig Ranch, at Silverado Drive and Alma, and the final delayed entry sums the evening up: hail to 2.5 inches across southwestern McKinney. Two inches to four and a half, in nineteen minutes, with almost every step pinned to a named intersection.

Stones in that class don’t leave the shallow, paint-safe dimples that quarter hail does. The Calendar

IN MCKINNEY, HAIL SEASON STARTS IN FEBRUARY

DFW hail peaks in April and May — that’s true everywhere in the metro. What McKinney’s own table adds is how early the tail begins: seven of its 21 inch-plus days landed before April. Collin County is famous ground for traveling hail crews — a verified storm over subdivisions this dense is the best week of their year. After the 2019 storm they worked Eldorado and Stonebridge for a month; after March 2025 the yard signs and door-hangers were out along 380 within days. Some traveling techs do good work. The two that matter at your door: never sign anything that assigns claim rights before an estimate exists — Texas gives you until midnight of the third business day to cancel a door-signed contract, and a legitimate shop doesn’t need the pressure. And treat any “we’ll eat your deductible” pitch as what it is: if the number is hidden by inflating the estimate, Tex. Penal Code §35.02 calls it insurance fraud, filed under your name. The lawful version is printed on the estimate and paid from the shop’s own margin — which is exactly how our deductible program works.
