Read Southlake’s table below and you’ll notice something honest: the town’s own entries run quarter to half-dollar. The ring’s monsters fell on the Keller side. But hail damage isn’t priced by the stone — it’s priced by what the stone landed on, and in Southlake that means aluminum hoods and doors on Range Rovers and F-150 Platinums, panoramic glass roofs, satin factory finishes that can’t be cut and buffed, and parts sheets where a hood assembly costs what a whole commuter car’s repair does elsewhere. The second half of the equation is what the dents do when you don’t fix them. Southlake’s fleet turns over through lease returns, CPO inspections and private sales to careful buyers — the three venues where “cosmetic” hail becomes a written deduction. A lease inspector charges the panel back; an appraiser folds it into diminished value; a buyer’s detailer finds it in raking light and renegotiates. 2026 has already written three entries into this ring. The one that counts most fell squarely on the town: on April 28, the last round of the metro’s four-day April outbreak produced “several social media photos of hail up to half dollar size in Southlake” at 5:37 PM — two minutes after the same cell finished crossing Keller from Old Town to Davis. Then came the seam entries: quarter-size a mile northwest of Grapevine at 2:16 in the morning on May 23, and quarters along Hwy 114 in Grapevine with dimes reaching south Southlake on June 2 — that evening has its own storm page. Half-dollar is precisely the class that hurts here: deep enough to mark an aluminum hood or crease a roof rail on a tall SUV, shallow enough that nobody notices until the light is wrong — or until an inspector makes it their business. If a car sat outside in 76092 on April 28, five minutes of low-angle light down the hood settles the question, and a texted photo settles it for free.

The Public Record

Each row is a National Weather Service local storm report logged in Southlake or within five miles of Town Square — a ring that reaches Grapevine and the lake to the east, Keller to the west, Colleyville south and the Trophy Club–Westlake corner north. The point-report caveat runs both directions, and in a town of gated drives and garage discipline it runs harder: plenty of Southlake hail lands with no witness posting photos, and a Keller pin isn’t proof about a Carillon driveway. Dates are what the log fixes — and claims run on dates.

Two honesty notes worth restating. The ring’s two biggest entries — April 2021’s 2.50″ and May 2024’s measured 2.00″ — both fell on the Keller side and live properly on Keller’s page. And Southlake’s own in-town entries cluster at quarter-to-half-dollar — which, per the section above, is exactly the class this town’s vehicles can least afford to ignore. The Insurance Side

The rules don’t care what the car cost, which works in your favor. Hail is comprehensive — no fault, nothing on a driving record. Tex. Ins. Code §1952.301 makes the shop and the parts your choice — on a leased Defender exactly as on a work truck — and that includes declining a network shop whose volume model wasn’t built for aluminum panels or satin finishes. 28 TAC §5.7016 bars nonrenewal of a personal auto policy solely over weather claims; premiums have no such shield, and the honest morning-after math — including the ZIP-wide filings that follow any storm year — is in the rates guide.

The paperwork underneath is the same paperwork, and it fails the same checks: no fixed Texas address to find in March, a signature requested before an estimate exists, a warranty that travels with the crew. Two lines to hold at the door, however good the shirt: Texas law lets you cancel any contract signed at your home until midnight of the third business day, and a deductible “handled” inside an inflated estimate is insurance fraud under Tex. Penal Code §35.02 — filed under your name, long after the truck is gone.
